On Saturday morning, DW mentioned that he wanted to run over to a local outdoor store to check on some pricing for something. LC and I decided to make the trip with him and it actually turned out to be pretty fun since there were plenty of animals for her to check out around the store. At one point, I happened to be strolling along behind these two and thought this was picture worthy...Daddy and daughter walking hand in hand. And, if I do say so myself, that's two cute lil booties right there.
Also, in T-minus 10 seconds from this picture, LC is going to get really excited/nervous about that bear ahead...
There were also birds to be seen...
Finally, after letting her walk as much as possible to burn some energy and checking out all the animals, we hit the road.
I love how LC's hand looks like she was throwing a "What up, yo?"
DW and I decided it was too cold and wet to go outside but we absolutely did not want to go home. We finally decided we would drive over to the local Humane Society and let LC look at all the animals. I figured it would be duel purpose...we could spend some time loving on animals who needed love and we could also kill a couple hours.
I made the mistake of thinking I would be immune to wanting to take every animal home with me like I used to since I already have two Labs and a sub-two year old. Ummmm, I was wrong. Lesson learned. It took about two seconds to fall in love, same as it always has for me. I am a dog lover to the core.
I got a text from my friend, Greta, while we were there, looking at dogs. It said: "What? Are you crazy?" DW laughed and said, "Tell them they have litters of children, we like litters of dogs..." They have four kids 5 and under. Who are the crazy ones? They be cray.
Pitiful and sweet...
LC must have caught our fever because she truly loooooooooves dogs. This visit almost left her in sheer mania over all the animals. She did this excited little scream almost constantly for two hours and walked around saying, "BABY DOG" as much as possible. In fact, she's still saying it. ha!
This little one in particular almost (and still might) convinced us to bring her home with us. Were I not of the conviction that you never, ever make a decision about bringing an animal home as a family member on a whim, I would have been loaded this sweet thing in my car. The last time I loaded an animal in my car on a whim, I took it to the vet for shots and such and was rewarded with the news that the dog was PREGNANT. Only us. At the time (this was pre-LC) I remember thinking, "I can't manage to get pregnant for the life of me but even the dang dogs I pick up can. Nice." HA!
Something about this little pups ears and soft eyes reminded me so much of Cooper I almost busted out crying on the spot. It definitely tugged at my heart....
Especially when I looked down and saw this. I mean, break.my.heart. why don't you?
DW and I both agree that, with Tucker about to hit 15 years old, Sam needs a younger (more active) playmate and we want to rescue a puppy at some point in the near future to grow up with LC. I don't feel like we are quite at that point yet but we actually were seriously considering it. So much so that we asked to spend a couple minutes with that sweet puppy...
LC was flipping out!!!
That's her saying, "BABY DOG!!!!!!" as intensely as she possibly could...
Watching DW check the sweet puppy out...we love animals but we are particular about which ones we will take home with us.
I'm a little obsessed with this picture of DW with LC. I know I'm about to lay the cheese on thickly by publicly saying this, but it just sort of "catches" the way he treats LC. He is so incredibly loving, gentle and protective of her...and encouraging and playful, too. There isn't a day that passes where I'm not glad that he be my baby daddy.
And if that's not a enough...a man who truly loves animals, too? I'm a lucky woman...
Today, we met up with some of our closest friends from GA who were visiting town and got to spend a few hours with them.
LC with her Aunt Leslie...
"Roo" and Landry were instantly friends, just like their mamas...
And then after lunch, it was such a perfect day that we had to take them over to Steel City Pops. The best place in the world to find frozen happiness on a stick. It was, of course, a hit.

Cute post! Speaking of puppies, I have been meaning to ask you this for a long time (because I've been following you for a long time and have just failed to comment)... Are your labs inside dogs? If so, how do you keep their shedding under control? We have an 8 month old black lab and right now she is inside, and the HAIR is so hard to manage! Help? :-)
You NEED that dog. OMG... That paw! I'm dying.
you are a brave momma taking your sweet girl to see all those precious puppies! I would have wanted to bring all of those home!
& I LOVE those photos of LC & DW, Elyse is not all that into holding our hands yet, we're going to have to remedy that since she also wants to walk EVERYWHERE!
Not that you don't already know this (DUH) but your girl could not possibly get any cuter!!!!! :)
Cute pics! This puppy...OMG. Maybe you could do a post on what do look for or keep in mind when rescuing a dog? We have been thinking about getting a puppy from our local shelter for a while now...it would be great to get some advice and I'd like to hear about your experiences.
Those are great pictures, as usual. I am a crier at the animal shelters and want to take them all home. I got my purebred German shorthair pointer at the animal shelter when she was a year old. She was microchipped, but they called and called and even mailed her owner, and he never came to get her. How sad is that? I love that dog and she loves me back tenfold. I do hope you reconsider the puppy. How could you resist that foot? And I agree that DW is great to love and treat little kids and dogs so kindly.
Cooper = :'(
Seriously... I shed a tear. And I think you should go back and get that pup.. she does remind me of Coop.
Love all the pics :-D Love you. Ye Ken?
